New Town Hall
At first glance, many think it’s a castle – and they’re not entirely wrong. With its striking dome, magnificent façade, and idyllic setting by the Maschteich pond, the New Town Hall is one of Hanover’s most iconic landmarks and a favorite photo spot.
Opened in 1913, this impressive building stands on more than 6,000 beech piles – built for around ten million gold marks, a considerable sum at the time. Inside, a unique highlight awaits: the only arched elevator of its kind, which takes visitors on a slanted ride up to the dome’s viewing platform. From there, you’ll enjoy a breathtaking panoramic view over the city – perfect for anyone wanting to see Hanover from above.
Herrenhausen Garden
A visit to the Herrenhausen Gardens is one of the highlights of the region – and just a short trip from Hotel Restaurant Öhlers. This vast garden complex is among the most important in Europe, impressing visitors with its mix of magnificent baroque architecture and lush botanical variety. The Great Garden features strict geometric design, historic fountains, and meticulously trimmed hedges – a prime example of baroque landscape art. Right next door, the Berggarten invites you to explore exotic plants, impressive greenhouses, and colorful seasonal flower displays.
A special highlight is the reconstructed Herrenhausen Palace, now home to a museum and event venue. Where kings once strolled, history meets modern flair – the perfect place for anyone who enjoys nature and culture in an elegant setting.
