FIVE GENERATIONS OF FAMILY TRADITION

Sometimes a photo says more than a thousand words – like this historic picture of our inn, Öhlers, taken in the 1950s.
Cobblestone streets, a bicycle leaning against the wall, classic post-war cars parked out front, and the beautifully ornate façade bearing the sign “Gastwirtschaft Öhlers” – all of it tells a story of life and work in a different time.

Back then, Öhlers was more than just a place to eat and drink – it was a meeting point for neighbors, craftsmen, travelers, and regulars. The sign “Kaiser Export” above the entrance announced freshly tapped beer, and anyone who stepped through the door was greeted with genuine hospitality – just like today.

Much has changed since then – and yet what defines us has remained: a passion for good food, the joy of hosting guests, and a family spirit passed down through generations.

Our Pact Across Generations

A Place with History – and Heart Our house has a long story to tell. What once began as a small country inn has evolved over the years into a modern hotel and restaurant – all while preserving its traditional charm. Every generation has helped shape Öhlers into what it is today. Today, the 5th generation runs our hotel and restaurant. Julian and Patrick Berndt – great-grandsons of the founders – carry on their family’s legacy with passion and fresh perspective. Right where it all began, they continue the mission: living hospitality, serving quality, and bringing people together. Blending the best of tradition and modernity – in the kitchen, in the service, and in the atmosphere of the house. Whether it’s a festive dinner, a cozy meal, or a relaxing stay – you’ll feel it right away: this place has personality. And that’s exactly what Öhlers has always been about. Looking Ahead – Staying True In a world that spins faster every day, we want to remain a place of calm – with honest cooking, heartfelt service, and an inviting atmosphere that makes you want to return. We believe in the power of genuine connections, in true craftsmanship, and in the magic that happens when history and the present inspire each other.

Julian and Patrick Berndt (from left) are the current driving force behind Hotel Restaurant Öhlers. Julian oversees management and operations.

Patrick is the creative mind in the kitchen. He trained at the renowned Hotel Adlon in Berlin and has already cooked for Hollywood stars like Will Smith.
